WELCOME STEALTH PILOT TO YOUR BRAND NEW SJ 4.5.3

This game was made for the Micro Jam 060: Retro².

Story:

General Plot: You are a spaceshuttle pilot for one of the most important empires in the galaxy, and you've just been assigned to the brand new Stealth Jet 4.5.3, a jet focused only on stealth and recon missions, meant to be completely undetected; however, all this invisibility technology comes at a cost: the ability to fight back. If the main cloaking module were to fail your only choice would be to retreat to base as fast as possible, but fortunately for you the empire has provided you with a tutorial in case that were to happen, and it's not like such an expensive piece of equipment would stop working in enemy grounds, right?

*STORY MODE NOT PRESENT IN GAME JAM VERSION*

Gameplay:

The gameplay consists of three buttons: the W key, the S key, and the left mouse button. You have to dodge possible collisions from ships and rockets while staying on 5 different lanes.

Style:

The art was 100% human made by me; as for the sounds, they were all taken from a no-copyright website. The game is based on Asteroids from 1979 and from Synth/Vaporwave genres, which are based on the 80s.

Future:

For the future I would like to finish what was cut from the Game Jam version, finalizing the two or three missions, adding new ships, the arcade mode, and some other things.

A bit of devlog:

This game was absolutely all over the place for me to make, it started out as an "80s factory simulator." After some sprites were created, I liked the idea of a vaporwave gas station simulator,  however I was really struggling with the development for that game, and while making a 3D arrow, I really liked how it looked with the "outline" style. This arrow later became the first ship you can see in the cut content section in the game. After adding the ships, I slowly started to make an Asteroid styled game that took place in a vaporwave style mountain. After accidentally making it so the arrow could only go into 5 different lanes, an idea popped into my head which was the gameplay you see in the released version. Another thing to mention is that with 5 hours left to post the game I decided to completely change the style of the art going from colored sprites to the more black + outline you see in-game. This ended up eating a lot of the time that was meant to be used for adding new stuff, but I'm happy with this decision as plenty of assets looked out of place in the other version. Some of the stuff that was cut in favor of the art revamp was the electrical problem minigames which are mentioned in the tutorial, the ability to scan ships which was also mentioned in the tutorial, ship customization and the arcade mode. (The story mode I already knew I wasn't gonna finish in time.) And lastly the background used to move however after fixing a issue with the in-game timer it stopped working and unfortunately I did not have the time to fix it.
